Apologies for “The Poetical Offering”

I.
If anything you read here seems just bad or poorly written,
Remember, please, I'm no John Keats, Robert Frost or Herrick:
I only wish to share with her with whom I'm wildly smitten
The secret of my adoration, and then become her Eric.

II.
Please, bear in mind, if any rhymes within this book should make you queasy,
That composition takes technique and skill and time: it's not so easy.
Writing a perfect piece takes work; and rarely will The Muse bequeath
A piece that's done and finished well: it's usually more like pulling teeth.
